Gisle Johnsen
A veteran of both the music and tech industries, Gisle has been a trailblazer for decades — building companies, inventing technologies, and creating successful exits.
He co-founded Bergen Live, Norway’s largest concert promoter, launching it with a Rolling Stones concert in 2006. Bergen Live produced sold-out shows with artists such as Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Rihanna, and Metallica, before being acquired by Live Nation in 2020.
Alongside his work in live music, Gisle has been inventing music software since the 1990s. He holds a Master’s degree in Music/Technology and has over 25 years of international experience developing innovative music technology products.
His collaborations span leading institutions including NYU, the New York Philharmonic, the Kennedy Center, the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, UNESCO, Quincy Jones’ QWEST TV, Sunset Pictures (LA), and the US Army Bands.
In 2002, he and his company MusIT, became the first Westerner to publish music technology in China, working with the China Conservatory of Music and the Central Conservatory of Music. He has also contributed to several EU projects with Dr. Karlheinz Brandenburg (Fraunhofer Institute) and European universities.
In 2020, Gisle founded iTO with Nikolai Johnsen. Developed together with iconic musicians including Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, Esperanza Spalding, and Quincy Jones' QWEST TV (all shareholders), iTO is built by musicians for the next generation. The company holds two U.S. patents for its unique technology and product.
